Insert a rational number and an irrational number between 1/3 and 1/2
Solution:
Given, the numbers 1/3 and 1/2
Rational numbers are numbers which are in the form of p/q, where q is not equal to 0, p and q are integers.
Irrational numbers are numbers which are in decimal form.
To find a rational number R, we use the formula,
R = (p + q)/2
Let p = 1/3 and q = 1/2, we get,
p + q = 1/3 + 1/2
= (2 + 3)/6
= 5/6
R = (5/6)/2
R = 5/12.
To find an irrational number Q, we use the formula,
Q = √pq
where p and q are not perfect squares.
Q = √1/3(1/2)
Q = √1/6.
Q = 0.408248….
Therefore, the rational number is 5/12 and the irrational number is √1/6.
