In the year 2001, the number of malaria patients admitted in the hospitals of a state was 4,375. Every year this number decreases by 8%. Find the number of patients in 2003
Solution:
Number of Malaria Patients admitted in 2001 = 4375
In the following year i.e. 2002 the malaria patients admitted decreased by 8%, therefore,
Number of Malaria Patients admitted in 2002 = 4375 - 8% × 4375
= 4375 - (8/100) × 4375
= 4375 - 350
= 4025
In the next year the number of malaria patients further decreased by 8%. Therefore,
Number of Malaria Patients admitted in 2003 = 4105 - 8% × 4105
= 4025 - (8/100) × 4025
= 4025 - 322
= 3703
The Number of Patients admitted in hospitals in 2003 is 3703
