In the morning, a milkman filled 5(1/2) L of milk in his can. He sold to Renu, Kamla and Renuka 3/4 L each; to Shadma he sold 7/8 L; and to Jassi he gave 1(1/2) L. How much milk is left in the can
Solution:
The total quantity of milk in the can = 5(1/2) L
= 11/2
Total quantity of milk to be sold to different persons = [3/4 + 3/4 + 3/4 + 7/8 + 1(1/2)] = [9/4 + 7/8 + 3/2] = 37/8 L
Therefore, the quantity of milk left in the can = (11/2 - 37/8) = 7/8 L
✦ Try This: In the morning, a milkman filled 7(1/2) L of milk in his can. He sold to Ramu, Kajal, and Renu 3/4 L each; to Shaanu he sold 8/9 L; and to Jigar he gave 2(1/2) L. How much milk is left in the can?
