In the first year on an investment of Rs 6,00,000 the loss is 5% and in the second year the gain is 10%, the net result is _________
Solution:
Loss on investment of Rs. 600,000 for the first year = 5% × 600,000
= Rs. 30,000
The net investment at the end of first year = Rs. 600,000 - Rs. 30,000
= Rs. 570,000
In the second year there is a gain of 10% on the investment = 10% × 570,000
= Rs. 57,000
Total gain in two years = Rs. 57,000 - Rs. 30,000 = Rs. 27,000.
Hence there is a net gain of Rs. 27000 on the investment of Rs. 600,000 in two years.
✦ Try this: In the first year on an investment of Rs 6,00,000 the gain is 10% and in the second year the loss is 5%, the net result is _________.
Gain on investment of Rs. 600,000 for the first year = 10% × 600,000
= Rs. 60,000
The net investment at the end of first year = Rs. 600,000 + Rs. 60,000
= Rs. 660,000
In the second year there is a loss of 5% on the investment = 5 % × 660,000
= Rs. 33,000
Total gain in two years = Rs. 60,000 - Rs. 33,000 = Rs. 27,000.
Hence there is a net gain of Rs. 27000 on the investment of Rs. 600,000 in two years.
