In Fig. 9.19, EFGH is a parallelogram, altitudes FK and FI are 8 cm and 4cm respectively. If EF = 10 cm, then area of EFGH is
a. 20 cm²
b. 32 cm²
c. 40 cm²
d. 80 cm²
Solution:
A parallelogram is defined as a quadrilateral in which both pairs of opposite sides are parallel and equal.
In parallelogram EFGH,
EF = HG = 10 cm
We know that
Area of parallelogram EFGH = Base × Corresponding height
Substituting the values
= 10 × 4
= 40 cm²
Therefore, the area of EFGH is 40 cm².
