In Fig. 9.10, ABCD is a parallelogram, in which AB = 8 cm, AD = 6 cm and altitude AE = 4 cm. Find the altitude corresponding to side AD.
Solution:
We know that
Area of parallelogram ABCD = AB × AE
From the figure
Area of parallelogram ABCD = 8 × 4
= 32 cm²
Consider h as the altitude corresponding to AD
h × AD = 32
Substituting the values
h × 6 = 32
Dividing both sides by 6
h = 32/6 = 16/3
Therefore, the altitude corresponding to side AD is 16/3 cm.
