In Fig. 5.60, two parallel lines l and m are cut by two transversals n and p. Find the values of x and y.
Solution:
Given, l and m are parallel lines
n and p are two transversals cutting l and m.
We need to find the values of x and y.
Considering p as transversal with parallel lines l and m,
If two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal, each pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal is supplementary.
So, x + 66° = 180°
x = 180° - 66°
x = 114°
Considering parallel lines l and m with n as transversal,
If two parallel lines are intersected by a transversal, each pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal is supplementary.
So, y + 48° = 180°
y = 180° - 48°
y = 132°
Therefore, the values of x and y are 114° and 132° respectively.
