In Fig. 11.5, a square of diagonal 8 cm is inscribed in a circle. Find the area of the shaded region
Solution:
Given, diagonal of square = 8 cm
We have to find the area of the shaded region.
Length of diagonal of square = a√2
Where, a is the side of the square
So, a√2 = 8
a = 8/√2
a = 4√2 cm
Area of square = a²
= (4√2)²
= 32 square cm.
We know that diagonal of square = diameter of circle
So, diameter of circle = 8 cm
Radius = 8/2 = 4 cm
Area of circle = πr²
= π(4)²
= (22/7)(16)
= 50.286 square cm
Area of shaded region = area of circle - square.
= 50.286 - 32
= 18.286 square cm.
Therefore, the area of the shaded region is 18.286 cm².
