In a park of dimensions 20 m × 15 m, there is a L shaped 1m wide flower bed as shown in Fig. 9.61. Find the total cost of manuring for the flower bed at the rate of Rs 45 per m².
Solution:
Given, a park consists of a L shaped 1 m wide flower bed.
The dimensions of the park is 20 m × 15 m.
The cost of manuring for the flower bed is Rs 45 per m².
We have to find the total cost of manuring for the flower bed.
Area of flower bed = area of park ABCD - area of EFGD
The park is in the shape of a rectangle
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Considering the park ABCD,
Length = 15 m
Breadth = 20 m
Area = 15(20)
= 300 m²
Considering rectangle EFGD,
Length = 15 m - 1 m = 14 m
Breadth = 20 - 1 = 19 m
Area = 14(19)
= 266 m²
Area of flower bed = 300 - 266
= 34 m²
Cost of manuring 1 m² = Rs. 45
Cost of manuring 34 m² = 45 × 34
= 1530
Therefore, the total cost of manuring is Rs. 1530/-
