If the dice are thrown once more, what is the probability of getting a sum more than 10? Two dice are thrown simultaneously 500 times. Each time the sum of two numbers appearing on their tops is noted and recorded as given in the following table:
Sum Frequency
2 14
3 30
4 42
5 55
6 72
7 75
8 70
9 53
10 46
11 28
12 15
Solution:
Given, two dice are thrown simultaneously 500 times.
Each time the sum of the two numbers appearing on their tops is noted and recorded.
The table represents the sum of the numbers on the top of the dice and their frequencies
We have to determine the probability of getting a sum more than 10, if the dice are thrown once more.
Probability of an event = Number of trials in which the event has happened / Total number of trials
From the given table,
Number of times we get a sum of more than 10 = 28 + 15 = 43
So, number of trials in which the event has happened = 43
Total number trails = 500
Probability of getting a sum more than 10 = 43/500
= 0.086
Therefore, the required probability is 0.086
✦ Try This: Two dice are thrown at the same time. Find the probability that the sum of the two numbers appearing on the top of the dice is 12.
