If ∆PQR is congruent to ∆STU (Fig. 6.20), then what is the length of TU?
(a) 5 cm
(b) 6 cm
(c) 7 cm
(d) cannot be determined
Solution:
Given, ∆PQR is congruent to ∆STU
We have to find the length of TU.
Since ∆PQR ≅ ∆STU
Side-Side-Side congruence rule states that if three sides of one triangle are equal to three corresponding sides of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.
By SSS rule,
PQ = ST
QR = TU
PR = SU
From the figure,
QR = 6 cm
Therefore, TU = 6 cm.
✦ Try This: In a triangle PQR, ∠P - ∠Q = 60° and ∠P - ∠R = 80°; find angle P
