Solution:

Given, a = -1 and b = 2.

We have to find the value of a^b - b^a

a^b - b^a = (-1)² - (2)⁻¹

(-1)² = -1 × -1 = 1

Using the law of exponents,

a⁻ⁿ = 1/aⁿ

(2)⁻¹ = 1/2

(-1)² - (2)⁻¹ = 1 - 1/2

= (2 - 1)/2

= 1/2

Therefore, a^b - b^a = 1/2
