Given, the numbers are 7.9 × 10⁴ and 5.28 × 10⁵

We have to find a greater number.

For any non-zero integers ‘a’ and ‘b’ and whole numbers m and n,

a^m ÷ aⁿ = a^m-n

Considering 7.9 × 10⁴,

7.9 × 10⁴ = 79/10 × 10⁴

= 79 × 10⁴/10¹

Considering 10⁴/10¹,

Here, a = 10, m = 4 and n = 1

m - n = 4 - 1 = 3

a^{m - n} = 10³

Now, 7.9 × 10⁴ = 79 × 10³

= 79 × 1000

7.9 × 10⁴ = 79000

Considering 5.28 × 10⁵,

5.28 × 10⁵ = 528/100 × 10⁵

= 528 × 10⁵/10²

Considering 10⁵/10²,

Here, a = 10, m = 5 and n = 2

m - n = 5 - 2 = 3

a^{m - n} = 10³

Now, 5.28 × 10⁵ = 528 × 10³

= 528 × 1000

5.28 × 10⁵ = 528000

We observe that 528000 is greater than 79000

Therefore, 528000 > 79000
