How many vertices does each of the following solids have?
(a) Cone
(b) Cylinder
(c) Sphere
(d) Octagonal Pyramid
(e) Tetrahedron
(f) Hexagonal Prism
Solution:
We have to find the number of vertices of each of the given solids.
(a) Cone
A cone is a three-dimensional shape that has a circular base and it narrows down to a sharp point called a vertex.
A cone has one face and a vertex.
(b) Cylinder
A cylinder is a three-dimensional solid figure which has two identical circular bases joined by a curved surface at a particular distance from the center which is the height of the cylinder.
(c) Sphere
A sphere is a three-dimensional object that is round in shape.
(d) Octagonal Pyramid
An octagonal pyramid has 9 vertices, 9 faces, and 16 edges.
(e) Tetrahedron
A tetrahedron is a polyhedron with 4 faces, 6 edges, and 4 vertices, in which all the faces are triangles.
(f) Hexagonal Prism
By definition, a hexagonal prism is a prism with two bases that are in the shape of hexagons and 6 faces that are in the shape of rectangles.
Therefore, the number of vertices of each solids are 1, 0, 0, 1, 4 and 12.
