How many edges does each of following solids have?
(a) Cone
(b) Cylinder
(c) Sphere
(d) Octagonal Pyramid
(e) Hexagonal Prism
(f) Kaleidoscope
Solution:
We have to find the number of edges of each of the given solids.
(a) Cone
A cone is a three-dimensional shape that has a circular base and it narrows down to a sharp point called a vertex.
A cone has one face and a vertex.
(b) Cylinder
A cylinder is a three-dimensional solid figure which has two identical circular bases joined by a curved surface at a particular distance from the center which is the height of the cylinder.
(c) Sphere
A sphere is a three-dimensional object that is round in shape.
(d) Octagonal Pyramid
An octagonal pyramid has 9 vertices, 9 faces, and 16 edges.
(e) Hexagonal Prism
By definition, a hexagonal prism is a prism with two bases that are in the shape of hexagons and 6 faces that are in the shape of rectangles.
(f) Kaleidoscope
A triangular prism is often in the shape of a kaleidoscope. It has triangular faces. In total, it has 5 faces, 6 vertices and 9 edges.
Therefore, the number of edges of the given solids are 1, 2, 0, 16, 18 and 9.
