Given a line l and a point M on it draw a perpendicular MP to l where MP = 5.2cm and a line q parallel to l through P.
Solution:
(i) Construct a line l.
(ii) Consider a point M on it.
(iii) Construct an angle of 90° at M with l that is perpendicular to l at M.
(iv) Taking M as centre and radius 5.2 cm, construct an arc that intersects the above perpendicular at P. So, MP is the required perpendicular.
(v) At the point P, construct an angle of 90° with PM and produce it to make a line q.
So line q is the required line which is parallel to the line l.
Therefore, a perpendicular MP is drawn.
✦ Try This: Given a line l and a point M on it draw a perpendicular MP to l where MP = 3.2cm and a line q parallel to l through P.
