Find three rational numbers between 5/7 and 6/7
Solution:
Given, 5/7 and 6/7
We have to find three rational numbers between 5/7 and 6/7.
The rational numbers between a and b is given by (a+b)/2
First rational number:
Let a = 5/7 and b = 6/7
a + b = 5/7 + 6/7
= (5 + 6)/7
= 11/7
(a + b)/2 = (11/7)/2
= 11/14
Therefore, the first rational number is 11/14.
Second rational number:
Let a = 5/7 and b = 11/14
a + b = 5/7 + 11/14
= (10 + 11)/14
= 21/14
= 3/2
(a + b)/2 = (3/2)/2
= 3/4
Therefore, the second rational number is 3/4.
Third rational number:
Let a = 5/7 and b = 3/4
a + b = 5/7 + 3/4
= (20 + 21)/28
= 41/28
(a + b)/2 = (41/28)/2
= 41/56
Therefore, the third rational number is -9/8.
