Solution:

The property of rectangles states that

Lengths and breadths are equal.

CD = AB

AD = BC

x + 3y = 13--------(1)

3x + y = 7----------(2)

For solving the linear equations (1) and (2)

Multiply (2) by 3 and then subtract (1), we get,

8x = 8

x = 1.

Substituting x = 1 in (1), we get,

y = 4.

x = 1

y = 4.

Therefore, the values of x and y are 1 and 4, respectively.
