Find the value of the following polynomial at a = - 2 and b = 3: a³ - 3a²b + 3ab² - b³
Solution:
The given polynomial is a³ - 3a²b + 3ab² - b³
We have to find the value of the polynomial at a = -2 and b = 3.
a³ = (-2)³ = -8
a² = (-2)² = 4
3a²b = 3(4)(3)
= 3(12)
3a²b = 36
b² = (3)² = 9
3ab² = 3(-2)(9)
= 27(-2)
3ab² = -54
b³ = (3)³ = 27
Now, a³ - 3a²b + 3ab² - b³ = -8 - 36 - 54 - 27
= -125
Therefore, a³ - 3a²b + 3ab² - b³ = -125
