Find the reciprocal of the following: (1/2 × 1/4) + (1/2 × 6)
Solution:
Given, (1/2 × 1/4) + (1/2 × 6)
We have to find the reciprocal of the given expression.
Considering (1/2 × 1/4),
(1/2 × 1/4) = (1 × 1) / (2 × 4)
= 1/8
Considering (1/2 × 6),
(1/2 × 6) = (1 × 6) / 2
= 6/2
= 3
Now, (1/2 × 1/4) + (1/2 × 6) = 1/8 + 3
= (1 + 8(3))/8
= (1 + 24)/8
= 25/8
Reciprocal means an expression which when multiplied by another expression, gives unity (1) as a result.
The reciprocal of any quantity is, one divided by that quantity.
Reciprocal of 25/8 = 1/(25/8)
= 8/25
Therefore, the reciprocal is 8/25
