Find the median of the first nine even natural numbers.
Solution:
Given, the data is the first nine even natural numbers.
We have to find the median of the given data.
First nine even natural numbers = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18
Arranging the data in ascending order, we get
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18
When the given data is arranged in ascending (or descending) order, then the middle most observation is the median of the data.
If n is odd, then median = (n+1)/2 th term
Number of observation = 9
Median = (9+1)/2 th term
= 10/2 th term
= 5th term
Therefore, Median = 10
