Find the median of the data : 21, 15, 6, 25, 18, 13, 20, 9, 8, 12
Solution:
Given, the data is 21, 15, 6, 25, 18, 13, 20, 9, 8, 12
We have to find the median of the data
When the given data is arranged in ascending (or descending) order, then the middle most observation is the median of the data.
Arranging the data in ascending order, we get
6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 18, 20, 21, 25
Number of observations, n = 10
If n is even, then median = [(n/2)th term + (n/2 + 1)th term]/2
= [(10/2)th term + (10/2 + 1)th term]/2
= [5th term + 6th term]/2
= (13+15)/2
= 28/2
= 14
Therefore, the median is 14.
