Solution:

Area of the shaded region(A) = Area of trapezium with parallel sides of length 6 and 9 + Area of square with sides 4 and 3 + Area of trapezium with parallel sides 8 and 12

A = 1/2 × (6 + 9) × 4 + 4 × 3 + 1/2 × (8 + 12) × 3

A = 30 + 12 + 30 = 72cm²
