Find the area of the shaded portion in figure 2.
Solution:
The area of the shaded portion can be found out by subtracting the area of the unshaded rectangle from the area of the triangle.
Area of the triangle(A) = 1/2 × Base × height
A = 1/2 × 40 × 16
A = 20 × 16
A = 320m²
Area of the unshaded triangle = 8 × 10 = 80 m²
Area of the shaded area = 320 - 80 = 240m²
✦ Try This: Find the area of the shaded portion
The area of the shaded portion can be found out by subtracting the area of the unshaded rectangle from the area of the triangle.
Area of the triangle(A) = 1/2 × Base × height
A = 1/2 × 36 × 15
A = 18 × 15
A = 270 m²
Area of the unshaded triangle = 6 × 12 = 72 m²
Area of the shaded area = 270 - 72 = 198m²
