Find the area enclosed in Fig. 9.49
Solution:
The figure represents a semicircle and rectangle.
We have to find the area enclosed by the figure.
Area of semicircle = πr²/2
Where, r is the radius of the circle
From the figure,
Radius = 10 cm
Area of semicircle = (22/7)(10)²/2
= (11/7)(100)²
= 157.14 cm²
Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × height
Base = 10 + 10 = 20 cm
Height = 17 - 10 = 7 cm
Area of triangle = 1/2 × 20 × 7
= 10(7)
= 70 cm²
Area enclosed by the figure = area of semicircle + area of triangle
= 157.14 + 70
= 227.14 cm²
Therefore, the area enclosed by the figure is 227.14 cm²
