Find the area enclosed in Fig. 9.47
Solution:
The figure represents a rectangle and a triangle
We have to find the area enclosed by the figure.
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
= 13 × 4
= 52 cm²
Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × height
Base = 13 - 8 = 5 cm
Height = 16 - 4 = 12 cm
Area of triangle = 1/2 × 5 × 12
= 5(6)
= 30 cm²
Area enclosed by the figure = area of triangle + area of rectangle
= 30 + 52
= 82 cm²
Therefore, the area enclosed by the figure is 82 cm²
