Factorise the following : 9y² - 66yz + 121z²
Solution:
Given, the polynomial is 9y² - 66yz + 121z² -------------- (1)
We have to factorise the polynomial.
Using the identity,
(a - b)² = a² - 2ab + b² ---------------- (2)
On comparing (1) and (2),
a² = 9y²
a = 3y
b² = 121z²
b = 11z
2ab = 66yz
ab = 33yz
Now, (a + b)² = (3y - 11z)²
Therefore, the factors are (3y - 11z)².
