Express the following in usual form: 1.75 × 10^-3

Solution:

Given, 1.75 × 10^-3

We have to express the given notation in the usual form.

For any non-zero integers ‘a’ and ‘b’ and whole numbers m and n,

a^m ÷ aⁿ = a^{m - n}

1.75 × 10^-3 = 175/100 × 10^-3

= 175 × 10^-3/10²

Considering 10^-3/10²,

Here, a = 10, m = -3 and n = 2

m - n = -3 - 2 = -5

a^{m - n}= 10^-5

Now, 10^-3/10² = 175 × 10^-5

= 175/100000

= 0.00175

Therefore, the required value is 0.00175.
