Express the following in the form p/q , where p and q are integers and q ≠ 0 : 0.00323232
Solution:
Given, the number is 0.00323232
We have to express the number in p/q form.
A recurring decimal is a decimal representation of a number whose digits are repeating its values at regular intervals.
The infinitely repeated portion is not zero.
Let x = 0.00323232 -------- (1)
Multiplying by 100 both sides,
100x = 100(0.00323232)
100x = 0.323232 --------- (2)
Multiplying by 10000 both sides,
10000x = 10000(0.00323232)
10000x = 32.3232 --------- (3)
On subtracting (2) and (3),
10000x - 100x = 32.3232 - 0.323232
9900x = 32
x = 32/9900
Therefore, x = 8/2475
