Solution:
We use the basic concepts of arithmetic and fractions and decimals to find who travelled more and by how much.
Total distance travelled by Dinesh = AB + BC
= 7.5 km + 12.7 km
= 20.2 km
Distance travelled by Ayub from place A to place D = 9.3 km and from place D to place C = 11.8 km
Total distance travelled by Ayub = AD + AC
= 9.3 km + 11.8 km
= 21.1 km
On comparing the total distance travelled by Dinesh and Ayub, we get 21.1 km > 20 .2 km
Distance travelled by Ayub > Distance travelled by Dinesh
Ayub covered more distance than Dinesh by (21.1 − 20.2) km
= 0.9 km
= 0.9 × 1000 m
= 900 m
