Consider the statement: Ratio of breadth and length of a hall is 2: 5. Complete the following table that shows some possible breadths and lengths of the hall.
Solution:
(i) Length = 50 m
2 / 5 = Breadth / 50
Using cross multiplication
50 × 2 = 5 × Breadth
Breadth = (50 × 2) / 5
= 100 / 5
= 20 m
(ii) Breadth = 40 m
2 / 5 = 40 / Length
Using cross multiplication
40 × 5 = 2 × Length
Length = (40 × 5) / 2
Length = 200 / 2
Length = 100 m
Therefore, the breadth in the second column is 20 m, and the length in the third column is 100 m.
