Brinda purchased 18 coats at the rate of Rs 1,500 each and sold them at a profit of 6%. If customer is to pay sales tax at the rate of 4%, how much will one coat cost to the customer and what will be the total profit earned by Brinda after selling all coats

Solution:

Purchase Price of each coat = Rs. 1500

Selling Price (SP) of each coat @ 6% profit = Rs.(106/100) × 1,500 = Rs. 1590

Cost of one coat to customer = Rs. 1590 + (4/100) × 1590 = Rs. 1653.60

The Profit earned by Brinda per coat = (Rs. 1590 - Rs. 1500) = Rs. 90

Profit earned after selling all 18 coats = Rs. 18 × 90 = Rs. 1620

Selling Price (SP) of each coat @ 8% profit = Rs.(108/100) × 1,200 = Rs. 1296

Cost of one coat to customer = Rs. 1296 + (5/100) × 1296 = Rs. 1296 + Rs.64.80

= Rs. 1360.80

The Profit earned by Brinda per coat = (Rs. 1296 - Rs. 1200) = Rs. 96

Profit earned after selling all 18 coats = Rs. 20 × 96 = Rs. 1920
