Ashima sold two coolers for Rs 3,990 each. On selling one cooler she gained 5% and on selling the other she suffered a loss of 5%. Find her overall gain or loss % in whole transaction
Solution:
Selling Price of both coolers = Rs. 3990 each
Gain on selling cooler = 5%
Therefore cost price of the cooler = [100/105] × 3990 = Rs. 3800
Loss on selling the other cooler = 5%
Therefore the cost price of the other cooler = [100/95] × 3990 = Rs. 4200
Total Cost Price of both coolers = Rs. 3800 + Rs. 4200 = Rs. 8000
Total Selling Price of both coolers = Rs. 3990 + Rs. 3990 = Rs. 7980
Overall loss on sale of two coolers = Rs. 7980 - Rs. 8000 = Rs. 20
Loss% on the whole transaction = [20/8000] × 100 = 0.25%
✦ Try This: Ashima sold two coolers for Rs 4554 each. On selling one cooler she gained 10% and on selling the other she suffered a loss of 10%.Find her overall gain or loss % in whole transaction.
Selling Price of both coolers = Rs. 4554 each
Gain on selling cooler = 10%
Therefore cost price of the cooler = [100/110] × 4554 = Rs. 4140
Loss on selling the other cooler = 10%
Therefore the cost price of the other cooler = [100/90] × 4554 = Rs. 5060
Total Cost Price of both coolers = Rs. 4140 + Rs. 5060 = Rs. 9200
Total Selling Price of both coolers = Rs. 4554 + Rs. 4554 = Rs. 9108
Overall loss on sale of two coolers = Rs.9108 - Rs. 9200 = Rs. 92
Loss% on the whole transaction = [92/9200] × 100 = 1%
