Arjun bought a rectangular plot with length x and breadth y and then sold a triangular part of it whose base is y and height is z. Find the area of the remaining part of the plot
Solution:
Given, Arjun bought a rectangular plot with length x and breadth y
He sold a triangular part of it with base y and height z.
We have to find the area of the remaining part of the plot.
Considering rectangular plot,
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Length = x
Breadth = y
Area of rectangular plot = x × y
= xy square units
Considering triangular part,
Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × height
Base = y
Height = z
Area of triangular part = 1/2 × y × z
= yz/2 square units
Remaining area of the plot = area of rectangular plot - area of triangular plot
= xy - (yz/2)
Taking out y as common,
= y(x - z/2)
Therefore, the remaining area is y(x - z/2) square units.
