An auto rickshaw takes 3 hours to cover a distance of 36 km. If its speed is increased by 4 km/h, the time taken by it to cover the same distance is __________.
Solution:
Time(T) taken by auto to cover a distance of 36 Km = 3 hours
Distance (D) covered in 3 hours = 36 Km
Speed(S) of the auto rickshaw = 36/3 = 12 km/hour
If the speed increased by 4 km/hour then the new speed is:
New Speed(S) = 12 + 4 = 16 km/hour
Time (T) taken to cover same distance = 36/16 = 2.25 hours = 2 hours 15 minutes
✦ Try This: An auto rickshaw takes 2 hours to cover a distance of 48 km. If its speed is increased by 6 km/h, the time taken by it to cover the same distance is __________.
Time(T) taken by auto to cover a distance of 48 Km = 2 hours
Distance (D) covered in 2 hours = 48 Km
Speed(S) of the auto rickshaw = 48/2 = 24 km/hour
If the speed increased by 6 km/hour then the new speed is:
New Speed(S) = 24 + 6 = 30 km/hour
Time (T) taken to cover same distance = 48/30 = 1.6 hours or 1 hours 36 minutes
