Solution:

After 12 years, Kanwar shall be 3 times as old as he was 4 years ago.

We have to find his present age.

Let the present age of Kanwar be x.

Four years ago, age of Kanwar = x - 4

After 12 years, age of Kanwar = x + 12

According to the question,

x + 12 = 3(x - 4)

x + 12 = 3x - 12

By transposing,

x - 3x = -12 - 12

x(1 - 3) = -24

-2x = -24

2x = 24

x = 24/2

x = 12

Therefore, the present age of Kanwar is 12 years.
