A volleyball court is in a rectangular shape and its dimensions are directly proportional to the dimensions of the swimming pool given below. Find the width of the pool.
Solution:
The length of the court is proportional to the length of the pool. Hence their width will be also proportional to each other.
The Ratio of the width of the court and width of the pool are in the ratio 18:75 or 6:25
Therefore the ratio of the width will also be the same. If x = width of the pool we can write:
x/9 = 75/18
Or
9/x = 18/75 = 6/25
x = (25/6) × 9
x = (25/2) × 3
x = 12.5 × 3
x = 37.5 metres
