Solution:
We know tha
2 4/7 × 3 1/4 = 18/7 × 13/4
By further simplification
= (9 × 13)/ (7 × 2)
So we get
= 117/14
= 8 5/14
In the question it is given as

Therefore, the error the student has made is that mixed fractions are not converted into improper fractions.
