A right triangle with sides 6 cm, 8 cm and 10 cm is revolved about the side 8 cm. Find the volume and the curved surface of the solid so formed.
Solution:
Given, a right triangle with sides 6 cm, 8 cm and 10 cm
The right triangle is revolved about the same side 8 cm
We have to find the volume and curved surface area of the solid so formed
When the right triangle is revoked about the side 8 cm, the solid so formed is a cone with height 8 cm, radius of base 6 cm and slant height 10 cm.
Volume of cone = 1/3 πr²h
Where, r is the radius of the cone
h is the height of the cone
Given, r = 6 cm
h = 8 cm
So, volume = 1/3 π(6)²(8)
= (22/7)(12)(8)
= 22(96)/7
= 2112/7
= 301.71 cm³
Curved surface area = πrl
Given, r = 6 cm
l = 10 cm
Curved surface area = (22/7)(6)(10)
= 220(6)/7
= 1320/7
= 188.57 cm²
Therefore, the volume and the curved surface of the solid is 301.71 cm³ and 188.57 cm².
