A man travelled two fifth of his journey by train, one-third by bus, one-fourth by car and the remaining 3 km on foot. What is the length of his total journey
Solution:
Let the length of his total journey be x km.
Then his journey by train be 2x/5, by bus be x/3 and by car be x/4
The linear equation we get is
x = 2x/5 + x/3 + x/4 + 3
x - 2x/5 - x/3 - x/4 = 3
x/60 = 3
x = 180
Thus, the length of his total journey is 180 km.
✦ Try This: A man travelled two fifth of his journey by train, one-third by bus, one-fourth by car and the remaining 4 km on foot. What is the length of his total journey?
Let the length of his total journey be x km.
Then his journey by train be 2x/5, by bus be x/3 and by car be x/4
A/Q
x = 2x/5 + x/3 + x/4 + 4
x - 2x/5 - x/3 - x/4 = 4
x/60 = 4
x = 4(60)
x = 240
Thus, the length of his total journey is 240 km.
