A heap of rice is in the form of a cone of diameter 9 m and height 3.5 m. Find the volume of the rice. How much canvas cloth is required to just cover the heap
Solution:
Given, a heap of rice is in the form of a cone of diameter 9 m and height 3.5 m
We have to find the volume of the rice.
We have to find the quantity of canvas cloth required to just cover the heap.
Volume of cone = (1/3)πr²h
Given, diameter = 9 m
Radius = 9/2 = 4.5 m
Height = 3.5 m
Volume of rice = (1/3)(22/7)(4.5)²(3.5)
= 74.25 m³
Therefore, the volume of rice is 74.25 m³.
Canvas cloth required to just cover the heap = curved surface area
Curved surface area of cone = πrl
We know l = √r² + h²
l = √(4.5)² + (3.5)²
l = √20.25 + 12.25
l = √32.5
l = 5.7 m
Curved surface area = (22/7)(4.5)(5.7)
= 80.61 m²
Therefore, the canvas cloth required to just cover the heap is 80.61 m².
