A factory manufactures 120000 pencils daily. The pencils are cylindrical in shape each of length 25 cm and circumference of base as 1.5 cm. Determine the cost of colouring the curved surfaces of the pencils manufactured in one day at Rs 0.05 per dm²
Solution:
Given, a factory manufactures 120000 pencils daily.
The pencils are cylindrical in shape with length 25 cm and circumference of base as 1.5 cm.
We have to determine the cost of colouring the curved surfaces of the pencils manufactured in one day at Rs. 0.05 per dm².
Given, circumference of circle = 2πr
2πr = 1.5 cm
Given, length of pencil = 25 cm
Curved surface area of cylinder = 2πrh
= 1.5(25)
= 37.5 cm²
1 dm = 10 cm
Curved surface area = 37.5/100
= 0.375 dm²
Curved surface area of 120000 pencils = 120000(0.375)
= 45000 dm²
Cost of colouring 1 dm² of pencil = Rs. 0.05
Cost of colouring 45000 dm² of pencil = 45000(0.05)
= Rs. 2250/-
Therefore, the cost of colouring 45000 dm² of pencil is Rs. 2250/-
✦ Try This: A factory manufactures 20000 pencils daily. The pencils are cylindrical in shape each of length 35 cm and circumference of base as 4 cm. Determine the cost of colouring the curved surfaces of the pencils manufactured in one day at Rs 1.5 per cm².
