A dining table is purchased for Rs 3,200 and sold at a gain of 6%. If a customer pays sales tax at the rate of 5%. How much does the customer pay in all for the table
Solution:
Cost price(CP) of dining table = Rs. 3200
Selling Price (SP) of dining table @ 6% gain= Rs. (106/100) × 3200 = Rs. 3,392
Sales Tax on SP @ 5% = (5/100) × 3,392 = Rs. 169.60
Amount Paid by the customer = Rs. 3,392 + Rs. 169.60 = Rs. 3561.60
✦ Try This: A dining table is purchased for Rs 3,600 and sold at a gain of 5%. If a customer pays sales tax at the rate of 4%. How much does the customer pay in all for the table?
Cost price(CP) of dining table = Rs. 3600
Selling Price (SP) of dining table @ 5% gain = Rs. (105/100) × 3600 = Rs. 3,780
Sales Tax on SP @ 4% = (4/100) × 3,780 = Rs. 151.20
Amount Paid by the customer = Rs.3,780+ Rs. 151.20 = Rs. 3931.20
