Given, a die is thrown 15 times
The outcomes are 5, 3, 4, 1, 2, 6, 4, 2, 2, 3, 1, 5, 6, 1, 2
We have to find the mean, median and mode of the data.
We know, mean = sum of all observation/number of observation
Sum of observation = 5 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 6 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 1 + 5 + 6 + 1 + 2
= 47
Number of observation = 15
Therefore, Mean = 47/15 = 3.13
Arranging the data in ascending order, we get
1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6
When the given data is arranged in ascending (or descending) order, then the middle most observation is the median of the data.
If n is odd, then median = (n + 1)/2 th term
Number of observation = 15
Median = (15 + 1)/2 th term
= 16/2 th term
= 8th term
Therefore, Median = 3
A mode is defined as the value that has a higher frequency in a given set of data.
1 occurs 3 times
2 occurs 4 times
3, 4, 5, 6 occurs 2 times
We observe that 2 occurs more frequently
Therefore, mode = 2
