A carpenter charged Rs. 2500 for making a bed. The cost of materials used is Rs. 1100 and the labour charges are Rs. 200/hr. For how many hours did the carpenter work
Solution:
A carpenter charged Rs. 2500 for making a bed.
The cost of material used is Rs.1100
The labour charges are Rs. 200/hr
We have to find the number of hours the carpenter worked.
Let the number of hours carpenter worked be x hours.
Total labour charge = Rs. 200x
Total amount charged for bed = material cost + total labour cost
2500 = 1100 + 200x
By transposing,
200x = 2500 - 1100
200x = 1400
x = 1400/200
x = 14/2
x = 7
Therefore, the carpenter has worked for 7 hours.
