5% sales tax is charged on an article marked Rs 200 after allowing a discount of 5%, then the amount payable is _________
Solution:
The priced marked for an article = Rs. 200
Discount is given on the marked price. Discount rate is @ 5% on the marked price, therefore
Discount = 5% of 200
= (5/100) × 200
= Rs. 10
Discounted Price = Rs. 200 - Rs.10 = Rs. 190
SalesTax @ 5% is charged on the discounted price i.e.
Sales Tax = 5% of 190
= (5/100) × 190
= Rs. 9.50
The amount payable = Rs. 190 + Rs. 9.50
= Rs. 199.50
✦ Try This: 10% sales tax is charged on an article marked Rs 240 after allowing a discount of 5%, then the amount payable is __________.
The priced marked for an article = Rs. 240
Discount is given on the marked price. Discount rate is @ 5% on the marked price, therefore
Discount = 5% of 240
= (5/100) × 240
= Rs. 12
Discounted Price = Rs. 240 - Rs.12 = Rs. 228
SalesTax @ 5% is charged on the discounted price i.e.
Sales Tax = 5% of 228
= (5/100) × 228
= Rs. 11.40
The amount payable = Rs. 228+ Rs. 11.40
= Rs. 239.40
