150 students are studying English, Maths or both. 62 per cent of the students are studying English and 68 per cent are studying Maths. How many students are studying both?
Solution:
It is given that
Total students in the class studying English, Maths or both = 150
Students studying English = 62% of 150 = 62/100 × 150 = 93
Students studying Maths = 68% of 150 = 68/100 × 150 = 102
We know that
Total students who study both = Students studying English + Students studying Maths - Students studying English, Maths or Both
Substituting the values
= 93 + 102 - 150
= 45
Therefore, 45 students are studying both.
