Solution:

Let the number be x

Then one third of the number be x/3

x/3 – 1 = 1

x/3 = 1 + 1

x = 2(3)

x = 6

Hence if 1 subtracted from one third of a number gives 1 then the number is 6.

Then one fourth of the number be x/4
