-x² + 7x - 10 = 0, find the roots of the quadratic equations by using the quadratic formula
Solution:
Given, the quadratic equation is -x² + 7x - 10 = 0
We have to find the roots of the equation.
By using the quadratic formula,
x = [-b ± √b² - 4ac]/2a
The equation can be written as -(x² - 7x + 10) = 0
x² - 7x + 10 = 0
Here, a = 1, b = -7 and c = 10
b² - 4ac = (-7)² - 4(1)(10)
= 49 - 40
= 9
x = [7 ± √9]/2(1)
x = [7 ± 3]/2
Now, x = (7+3)/2 = 10/2 = 5
x = (7-3)/2 = 4/2 = 2
Therefore, the roots of the equation are 2 and 5.
