(1/2)x² - √11x + 1 = 0, find the roots of the quadratic equations by using the quadratic formula
Solution:
Given, the quadratic equation is (1/2)x² - √11x + 1 = 0
We have to find the roots of the equation.
By using the quadratic formula,
x = [-b ± √b² - 4ac]/2a
Here, a = 1/2, b = -√11 and c = 1
b² - 4ac = (-√11)² - 4(1/2)(1)
= 11 - 2
= 9
x = [√11 ± √9]/ 1
x = [√11 ± 3]/1
Now, x = √11-3
x = √11+3
Therefore, the roots of the equation are √11+3 and √11-3
